Aaargh! I can’t stand being in traffic. I abhor everything about it. The starting and the stopping, the closeness of cars in front and behind you, the frustration of seeing the digital clock remind you of how late you will be for an appointment, and just the bad mood it brings to everyone who is stuck together not going anywhere fast.
While I sit I start to get bothered with a million thoughts. Some constructive and others destructive. But I mostly feel overwhelmed by the onslaught of frustration each thought brings. Then before I know it I am screaming at the people in front of me to speed up and using my hands to make bad gestures to all who are around me. And while I am reacting from an internal issue, I am failing to realize that the other drivers are all stuck in traffic too.
If you are like me I am looking for the nearest exit to escape the incessant non-stop parade. I mean don’t you find yourself almost zoning out if you sit long enough? At least in a vehicle we can move to a clearer road but what do we do when we are stuck in traffic of the mind? Believe it or not there is an exit to a clearer mindset.
Doctors Appointments, Deadlines at work, Bills Due, school activities, Responsibilities, commitments; the list goes on and on.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own uderstanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
There it is! That is our mental traffic exit. We must realize we have one who is greater than us who has already mapped out our life GPS. Just like driving our cars to the nearest escape from the vehicular traffic, we must drive our minds from the mental traffic.
There is a place to unload our overwhelming thoughts and a way to peacefully and patiently get through life’s traffic jams. Once I stopped and calmed down enough to hear GOD’s voice weaving through my jumbled thoughts and emotions, it was very easy to sit back, relax and wait for the traffic to flow normally again. And I was able to arrive at my destination without an attitude.
Traffic is inevitable whether physically or mentally but can’t we all agree we do have exits to take that allows escape from the madness? GOD is ever present to ride with you in and out of traffic. But what is even better is that if you allow Him to be your internal GPS, you will always make it to your destination open minded and open hearted.
Let’s take that exit everyone. GOD only needs you to enter in the destination and He guarantees a beautiful ride. You got this!
Sincerely,
Terryn
