On Assignment!

“Class, here are the assignments for your  project!”

How many of you remember getting unexpected assignments in school? They usually included much time and much work to pull off getting a good grade on them. And if you are like me, as soon as the teacher and/or professor announced the assignment, immediately my hands started to sweat and my heart would race. I have always been a person that liked to get a heads up about everything, so when I would walk into a class expecting a “Chill” day and instead recieve a mountain of work..well..you know…that was not the coolest experience. Now, isn’t this how we all react to receiving our eternal assignments from God?

The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? …“1 Timothy 3: 1-3

Now as I watch my kids grow up and take on more responsibility in school, I can frequently relate to the feelings of anxiety and stress that comes from recieving an unexpected assignment. They bring home homework that makes me cringe with trepidation on how will we get it done. And yes, they are only in elementary school, but the game of learning has changed dramatically since I was in school. But in being a great parent, you must teach your kids to be great students. And to be a great student, we all must consult our great teacher, GOD.

he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6

Just like a student in our earthly school, we are all students of the Godly school of Christ. We are all given assignments by Him daily, that will require much time and much work to get the passing grade for eternity. We are all assigned to the families we are born to, the neighborhoods we grow up in, the talents that we have, the careers we are drawn to, the children we bear, and the bodies our spirits reside in. Now, we have choices in friendships, spouses, and paths we take to reach our personal goals. But just know that in the path WE decide to take, there is always a lesson to be learned and our Teacher aka GOD already has the answer key. It is ultimately up to us, to be either a great student or to be an Eternity Drop Out!

So, finally this week, I challenge you to pray about your assignments. Most of us are no longer in a physical school, but all of us are in spiritual school. And as of right now, what grade do you think GOD is giving you based on class participation(helping others), leadership skills (working to bring others to Christ), organization (getting yourself in line with Christ), and creativity (new and innovative ways to get the word out about Christ)? The great thing is that each day He blesses you with opening your eyes means your assignment is not over, but do not sleep on the date of your final exam! It is always growing closer, so if you are always ready then there will never be a need to get ready. Stay Woke and know you got this!

Sincerely,
Terryn
