For years I had been trying to accomplish the goal of self sufficiency. To have something that I accomplished totally on my own without the input of family members helping me. I felt like it was my badge of honor to say, “I did that all on my own.” But in trying to fulfill this goal, I had to learn about trusting in the process. And the process is where God is truly working things out for our good.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6:25
Trusting in the process has not been my strong suit. I can remember many moments of total frustration in how long things were taking to come together.
Besides writing, my other passion is to plan events. I love bringing together people to enjoy a few hours of fellowship and fun. But, in all the years I have done this, I have realized that bringing something worthwhile together is a process.
Throughout this weird time in the Twilight Zone, we have all had to surrender to the process.
We have had to surrender to the process of social distancing. We have had to surrender to the process of Homeschooling our children. We have had to surrender to the process of cleaning our hands often. We have had to surrender to the process of creating things and doing things on our own. We also have had to surrender to losing all we used to know to embrace a whole new way of living.
Every process must first begin with focus.
“Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face.” Job 13:15
How many of you have had the prayer question “Why”? “When”? “How?”
Honestly I have. I was unemployed for a long time after I had gotten married, and could not understand why I had such an issue getting and keeping a job.
I was a stay at home mom, yes, out of necessity because it was so expensive to have childcare, as well as the simple fact that I could not find a job.
I soon learned that God was taking me through a process.
Just like planning events, I had to learn that my goals had to be started from the ground up.
I had to stop thinking I had everything to offer. But instead understand what I had inside of me to truly offer.
The process must happen so that we understand these things for ourselves.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
God created the process so that we can grow into something better.
I could not understand then why being jobless helped me to figure out who I wanted to be. Unemployment is a process that most of us think we cannot afford yet most of us still afford living without faith. How does that make any sense?
The process is hard and tests our very existence at times. There are questions unanswered, so it seems, and there are habits that we must get rid of.
I talk to so many people who allow the obstacles of life to deter them or push them toward doing all of the wrong things with the wrong people.
The craftiness of Satan comes from the fact that he knows how to expose and taunt you with your weaknesses. The enemy kicks us while we are down, and this is why many times the process takes longer than we anticipated.
We choose to believe the enemy’s lies instead of trusting that God will provide. We must depend on what will last instead of the temporary.
Finally, I challenge you this week/weekend to choose to trust in the process. Whether you are struggling financially, spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally..I need for you to trust in God.
Unfortunately I understand too well what it is like to face things not knowing how it will all work out.
But what I do know is that as soon as I chose to surrender myself to God’s process with God guiding and directing me, everything in my life became less weighty and I became more capable.
So, when in prayer and reading your word, ask God to show you His process. Allow for Him to open up your spiritual eye to what your life is and how much you mean to Him.
You will find that despite all that is around you, there is more to look forward to than what you think you have lost.
And as always you got this.
