What If/Why Not?~Inspirational Blog Post by T.H.M~February 2022

Lately I have found myself wondering about the “what if’s” of my life more and more.

We all know that can be like a black hole of doubt, fear, regret, and most times depression.

Fortunately in this season I am in my What if’s are starting to look more like Why not’s?

I was beginning to wonder, what if I was to get sick? Or what if my children or husband was to get hurt? What if I lose my job? What if I lose my hair? What if I lose my mind? (Dementia and Alzheimer’s do run in my family) and since becoming a woman in her 40s, I have wondered how I will handle being a “middle aged woman”.

Aargh! Okay, enough of all that.

Right?

Because in all these rambling thoughts of fear and anxiety, I have realized during this Pandemic, that these thoughts can be used as the spiritual trampoline boosting me to the person that God has created me to be.

So instead of what if, I am firmly asking myself why not?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

We all have had these “what if” moments at different times in our lives, and we all struggle to wrap our heads around what our past has taught us about how we are in the present, but the difference now is that when we have these “what if” moments, the God in us reminds us to say, “So What! Greater is He that’s within you than what or who is in this world!”

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

By a show of hand emojis, how many of you have had the “what if” moment this week?

I raise my hand because I recognize that I am a flawed human being who must lean heavily on my savior, Jesus Christ for wisdom and guidance in the midst of my uncertainty.

Yes, we will struggle daily to make the right choices, and honestly fail daily too.

The “what if” moments  happen because we realize that we are not perfect or immortal beings.

Yet thankfully we serve a God who is and God forgave us for our sins a long time ago. The problem still tends to be that we always find it hard to forgive ourselves.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corithians 10:13

Instead of having your “what if” moments let us have the moments of why not.

Why not think about the goodness to come? Why not work harder to become the best person you can be? Why not dream of better for yourself and your family? Why not put more time and effort fullfilling your own goals…?

When we think “what if” this was to happen, we should instead say, yet I overcame that and now I am wiser and stronger for it.

We all know there is no guarantees from strife, but why waste time worrying about what we truly do not know will happen.

Lastly I want to challenge you this week to think more on your why not.

Pursue the possibility of the impossible for yourself. Do not let anything or anyone hinder all the kingdom blessing that you are meant to be in this world.

As always remember we got this because God got us!

Sincerely,
Terryn Horton-Morton

  1. God has us indeed. “Why not? rather than What if?” Amen sis. God has plans for us to prosper. Yet, the word says we will endure trials. However, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper.” We grow wiser & stronger after a storm. Love your ability to be so creative yet transparent. LOVE IT!!!!!

Cole, you have touched the nerve, I hope you remember this insightful morning inspiration! I will be holding you to this.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. Philippians 4:6!!

Thank you Cole! This is an extraordinary gift to all who will take the time, to not only read your message, live this message!!

    1. Amen and Amen my sister. God already has the better waiting for us. We just have to trust Him enough to guide us to it.
