It’s 2023, and I have to say what a difference a year makes. Its at times a strange but an amazing thing to experience life through the lens of adulthood.
If you are like me, Christmas has a whole new vibe when you are able to see the season through your child’s eyes. Which is such a beautiful way to end a year full of challenges and triumphs.
Last year was challenging because it required me to look at myself and my goals in a different light. There were times when I found myself overwhelmed with my purpose and my responsibility to others.
You would think both of those can coexist, when actually you will realize they tend to compete with one another.
“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3
I believe the motto for last year, for me, was to “Be true to thine own self”. There were many relationships in my life that needed to be reevaluated and readjusted.
When walking in the purpose God has for you, you will find that everyone will not go the same way you are going nor will they understand the calling that is on your life.
The triumphs of last year were to step more into things that made me build my faith muscle and allowed me to experience things that I did not know I could.
My triumphs would also include the fact that I was able to follow through with some personal goals I had for myself.
I call that a win!
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
To pause and reflect is certainly key to understanding ourselves from year to year. Not to be pressed with resolutions but to be mindful of the growth and the changes in 365 days.
Every single day should be treated as a new year because each day is a new opportunity to be better than yesterday.
I will not go through everything that I experienced or witnessed in 2022, like an Instagram reel, but I wanted to have a moment of pure awe of how far God has brought me since this time last year.
Who else can look back at this date and see the changes in your life?
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21
This new year I challenge you to strive to be better listeners to God’s voice. We all have these plans we think that is the path we must take….but more often than not, those plans do not happen the way we “plan”.
Many of us set our hearts on superficial things that do not last. God’s promise never fades, never dies, never fails and never leaves us desperate for things that will not provide the water to quench our thirsts.
We are breathing, walking, seeing, smelling, thinking, and understanding miracles of God. We should make sure our lives stand for what God so loved us to sacrifice generations ago.
We should take this new year to put better out in the world around us. To be kinder to ourselves, to challenge ourselves, to love ourselves, and to cheer for ourselves too.
You are extraordinary for making through another year despite all that life threw your way. And just know the best is still yet to come.
“Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it.” Ezra 10:4
Take whatever happened last year to fuel your new year. Be purposeful and know that God still got you every single moment of your life.
Happy New Year 2023, just know your story is always helping to inspire me.
You got this!
